Partners:
We have been improving our performance step by step since December 2006. Initially, we could provide service to no more than 50 viewers, but by 2009 up to 2500 spectators were possible. Our partnership with the video platform \\\\\\\"O
wn3D.tv\\\\\\\
" has made a more or less unlimited number of viewers possible, as Own3D promises as many as 1,5 million conections at the same time! As yet we have not experienced any problems as a result of a connection limit. Future developments at Own3D plan to enlarge the range of the provided service from March/April onwards. All relevant statistical data such as the total number of viewers or the highest number of viewers at a single time will be available directly through the player.
We are planning to intensify our partnership with the online platform of the \\\\\\\"S
peedmaniacs.com\\\
\\\\" shortly, too. SimRace.TV\\\\\\
\'s event schedule will be available on their website and will be kept up-to-date via \\\\\\\"r

Technical Issues:
We aim to be on air every evening, especially at the wekends. 26 different race series can be viewed at SimRace.TV and with an average of 22 broadcasts a month we are making good progress but have not yet reached our goal! Currently we have 3 seperate channels that can broadcast simultaneously, plans for expansion aim to make 5 parallel channels possible no later than May 2010. An additional system that is only used in case of a game/stream server crash guarantees the necessary stand-by redundancy. Of course we cannot guarantee that no problems will occur, but this fact is openly admitted. It has to be said, though, that we have not encountered a single malfunction since we switched to flash technology. Still, we clearly state that there is no right to reimbursement in case of a breakdown.
SimRace.TV runs six properly equipped servers for its productions that are connected to a data centre in Frankfurt by means of a 1 GBit circuit. This is where the streams are created and sent to the servers of Own3D who are responsible for distribution. The racing simulation that is used runs on one of the servers in the data centre, this server can be controlled by the commentator as if it were a local machine with the help of a video optimised remote tool supplied by SimRace.TV. The only requirement for the user is an upload rate of at least 128 kBit - a value that can be achieved even with DSL 1000. The users local machine controls the server in the data centre, all applications requiring a lot of hardware ressources or bandwith run on the server making it possible to comment a race even when using a Netbook.
We will stick with flash technology since this format produces the best quality and does not exclude anybody due to their hardware or their operating system. The codecs that is used is H.264 (f4v) or VP6 (flv), which makes it possible to watch the stream even on a mobile phone.
