Pepe the Frog Origin

Pepe the Frog is a cartoon character from Matt Furie's "Boy's Club" comic book series. His birth dates back to 2005, but it wasn't until 2008 that he burst onto the internet and there was no reason to expect that he would be as popular as he is today.

Pepe the Frog's popularity grew primarily due to three websites: Myspace, Gaia Online and 4chan. In 2008, internet users began using the green frog as a way to express their emotions.

In 2008, the image was scanned and uploaded to the category /b/ on 4chan along with the phrase "feels good man". Since then, the meme has been evolving and changing, but always maintaining its essence and expressiveness. We have also seen it accompanied by the phrase "feels bad man" when users wanted to express empathy for a story with a sad ending.

In 2015, it was literally the best known meme in the whole internet because it was still being used daily on 4chan, Tumblr, 9gag and the streaming platform, Twitch.

Its popularity also increased when celebrities like Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj or Donald Trump shared different versions of the iconic frog on Twitter.

On May 11, 2017, the Reflex Cinema channel uploaded a video in which they tell, among other things, how Pepe the Frog became famous on the Internet. It was all thanks to a vignette that showed us Pepe after he went to the bathroom along with the message "feels good man".
